There are many fascinating things about the Tour Eiffel, one being that there are seventy-two names of French scientists, engineers, and mathematicians that are engraved in recognition of their contributions on the Eiffel. The engravings are found on the sides of the tower under the first balcony. These were originally painted in gold leaf but were covered over in the early 20th century. When repainted in the 2010-11 repaint, the gold color was brought back. I found this very interesting and is one of the many interesting facts that makes the Eiffel Tower a beautiful structure besides it’s grand statement to the landscape around it!
