Many called this the "birthplace of cubism"!

The Pont Alexandre III is the most picturesque bridge in Paris, even in low light with rain and dark heavy clouds in the middle of the afternoon! The bridge over the river Seine connects the Grand and Petit Palais as well as the Champs-Elysees quarter on the right bank with the with the Invalides and Eiffel Tower quarter on the left bank. Dedicated in 1900 for the Universal Exposition it was another glorious piece of work introduced to the world at the same time as the Eiffel Tower!

One of the things we like to find in Paris is where movies have been shot on location, so we can say, “We’ve been there”. This walk will take us to the front door of the apartment used in the movie Last Tango in Paris and to the spot on the bridge in the movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets where they fly a remote helicopter to see what is written on the Statue of Liberty at the end of the Allee des Cyges Island, actually the correct term is Replique de la Statue de la Liberte. Fun stuff huh? Oh yeah, there are great views of the Eiffel Tower from here too!

2014, April, bookstore, cafe, dark and cloudy day, Eiffel Tower, fountains, free clean bathrooms, free museum, gardens, Palais de Chaillot, Paris, thousands of tourist, Trocadero, Trocadero Gardens, Trocadero Metro

This is a very popular spot to look across the Seine River to the East and see the Eiffel Tower, or as the French call it, Tour Eiffel! Trocadero is the area of the city and the name of the Metro stop. One of the reasons is that it so popular is that it is on a Metro Line that brings you right up into the square. The Metro stop for the Eiffel Tower is some what of a walk once you get above ground still! Here the fountains were putting on quite a show this day, at least we thought is was a kick in the pants! Besides the fountains and the thousands of tourists, including us two, the Trocadero Gardens flank each side of the fountains which go right down the middle of the park! Also, the Palais de Chaillot has a free museum, free clean bathrooms, bookstore and cafe. Hard to find clean and free bathrooms once you leave your hotel room or apartment! As you will see many of the photos on today’s blog are of the Eiffel Tower, the next blog we’ll be on the Eiffel Tower side of the river! As you will see it was a dark and cloudy day with no rain, but not much daylight either.

As you arrive above the Metro stop this will be your first look at the Eiffel Tower!

Sundays were made for relaxing!

What more can I say, it’s Sunday and Paris is the place to do pretty much nothing, well, if you live there and you aren’t on vacation there and just have 5 days like we did in 2003. We were on our way to the Eiffel Tower crossing the Pont d’Iéna looked down at the Seine to see this beautiful Corvette sitting in a No Parking Zone with it’s owner taking a Sunday nap! Apparently all traffic signs are to be ignored in Paris? But, as I said, Sundays were made for relaxing!
